Are you sick of Blogger or LiveJournal or whatever other blogging service you use? Are you tired of worrying about TOS violations enforced by prudes? Have you finally figured out that blogging services suck?

If so, you need an adult-friendly host, somebody who "gets" that the internet is for porn, or at least for adult conversations.

First, forget about needing a "blog" host. You don't need a "blog" host. You just need a host.

A blog is just some software running on a server. You want somebody in the server business, who knows about running servers, and will can rent you one, keep it happy, and make sure it works all the damn time. You want them to be available if your site goes down (if they're good, this will be extremely rare, and it will usually be your fault), and you want them to fix it with lightning speed. While making it all look easy.

Oh yeah, and you want someone who does all this for tycoons of the porn industry, so that your piddling little sex blog or naked babe photo extravaganza won't even twitch their radar.

This won't be particularly cheap compared to the consumer deals you'll see for web hosting -- it's like buying the three hundred dollar contractor tool instead of the forty dollar chinese craptastic consumer model -- but you'll sleep soundly at night knowing your adult blog is in secure hands.

(The quality tool tends to a be a dedicated computer, rented to you, running in a rack somewhere in a data center, with only your website on it. The bargain discount consumer version, for just a few bucks a month, is a "virtual server" -- which is to say, a small chunk of a server, where your web site is one of several (or even dozens) of other websites all hosted on the same server. When you're tiny, it may not make much difference. If you get bigger -- and you do want to get bigger, don't you? -- you'll find out that virtual hosting kinda sucks, and you'll want your own dedicated server after all.)

There are lots of these business-oriented adult-friendly hosts out there. You can find them by going to a porn site you like, one that you know is freakin' huge, and then doing net-sleuthery until you figure out who their host is.

Me, I use Mojo Host, and I love them. You don't know who I am, you don't know what all my websites are (and I'm not telling you here), but I've got a ton of adult websites. Mojohost takes good care of me.

However, they aren't paying me a dime to say this, and I don't get an affiliate cut or anything, so I can be frank. Mojohost is a great solution if you're operating on any kind of a business-sized scale. If you're doing business, you need them, or somebody like them.

But, if you're a true hobbyist, and never expect to make a dime from your blog, there are probably cheaper solutions that are almost as good.

This is twice true if you don't know how to install your own blog software. (WordPress is dead easy, you should try it even if you're not a techie.) Mojohost offers managed hosting for your web business whatever it may be, they've been very nice about helping me with every software install I've ever had problems with, but they don't specifically advertise a willingness to set up blogs and stuff for non-commercial individuals. It's not that they can't or that they won't (I doubt either is true), it's just not quite where they seem to have aimed their business plan.

There are adult-friendly outfits out there that are (a) more oriented toward non-commercial bloggers and (b) specifically advertising service packages that include blog software setup. If MojoHost looks like more than you need (and please don't be hasty in coming to that conclusion!), I've heard very good things about Laughing Squid. They are San Francisco based, adult friendly, and they specifically "focus on providing dependable web hosting services to individuals, artists and bloggers." Cool people I trust recommend them highly.
